2. The Advantage Culture Impact of Tourism
2.1 Tourism Exposure to Native Culture
The positive side, as one of the largest industries in the world, tourism is a great source of foreign exchange cultural resource for many countries. It is even the main support of the economy for some developing countries. It is obvious that we can not just abolish it. A possible solution is ecotourism. Tourism has also been credited with helping traditional arts and crafts to service. For example in the southwestern Unites Stated, tourist exposure to native culture has greatly increased the demand for India arts and crafts, such as pottery, jewelry, and weaves. Indians of the southwest have resisted the temptation to turn out mass-produced imitations, so the quality of the products has remained high. A similar picture emerges in parts of Indian, where tourist demands for souvenirs have perpetuated the Indians craft of soapstone carving.
2.2 Tourism Contribute to Ethnic Preservation
From the whole world we can know that tourism not only helps sustain native art forms but may also contribute so ethnic preservation. For example, the assimilation of the Dong Guan population of Guang Dong province into the general population began in the 1980s, and by the 1990s this group had almost lost its unique identity. But then Dong Guan of Guang Dong province was developed as a tourist destination. Local residents began to take pride in their culture origins. Tourist from all over the nation expressed their appreciation of sweet, sweet Dong Guan food and the distinctive local music, and took their interest in the “Yue” language. In this way, tourism helped the Dong Guan preserve their cultural heritage, and retain a separate ethnic identity. Incidentally the Dong Guan present a good example of the cross adoption discussed earlier. Local residents adopt the values of visitors from other parts of North China, while the tourist adopt certain Guang Dong habit, as evidences by the popularity of Dong Guan style foods in restaurants throughout the People’s Republic of China.
